Melinda joined the Pixo staff full time in January 2011 after finishing her master degree in library and information science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Melinda is intrigued by information problems and enjoys discovering both visual and verbal solutions. Her specialties include information architecture, user studies, content strategy, search, wire framing, and usability.

A native of Macomb, Illinois, Melinda attended the University of Illinois and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism. She moved to upstate New York, where she worked for 12 years in the newspaper industry in Elmira, Ithaca and Rochester. Melinda specialized in editing and design and served in leadership roles such as news editor, graphics editor, and assistant managing editor for presentation. In addition to loving the thrill of putting out the newspaper, Melinda often got involved in side projects including redesigns, new product launches and system implementations, whetting her appetite to work on more complex information and technology problems.

In 2005, Melinda left the corporate journalism world to return to Champaign-Urbana and serve as the first editorial adviser of Illini Media. In that capacity she helped the non-profit student media newsroom transition into a multimedia operation and implement new publishing tools, including K4 and Drupal. She returned to school full time in 2010 to study information science and also worked at the Library's Scholarly Commons in addition to interning at Pixo.
