Brandon Bowersox selected as a 40 Under 40 Winner

Brandon Bowersox 29
Vice president of technology, OJC Technologies
Community involvement:
Urbana City Council member, representing Ward 4, chair of Urbana's Bicycle and Pedestrian advisory commission, advocate for Revitalizing Downtown and Philo Road, board member and teacher at the Computer Learning and Mentoring Center and member of the EDC Tech advisory committee.
Best advice:
I've received: When I asked a teacher in high school if I would be good at doing what I love, he said that if you love what you're doing, you'll be great at it.
Best advice I can give:
Communicate directly and honestly, and give up that Midwest fear of hurting feelings.
What I like about C-U:
Everyone you pass on the street could be a Nobel prize winner, a renowned musician or someone making a difference in the community and the world.
Proudest professional accomplishment:
Getting to work with organizations whose mission I care about. I admire: President Obama, because he stayed above the corruption as he rose through the Illinois legislature while passing life-changing bipartisan legislation in Springfield.
To relax, I:
Learn to play and laugh like a kid again with my son Garrett.
A word from the nominator:
"Brandon has been an exceptional leader in his position, helping support employees to reach their highest potential." -Lori Patterson, CEO, OJC Technologies.
