OJC Technologies has been chosen by the American Library Association to oversee the migration of www.ala.org to Drupal. We are excited to begin development this Fall to enhance ALA's 85,000-page enterprise web presence. ALA is migrating from Serena Collage, a discontinued, proprietary CMS to Drupal version 7. We are extremely proud that OJC and ALA share the same values of open access to information and that ALA has agreed to contribute all custom modules to the Drupal community. CHICAGO - The American Library Association has contracted with OJC Technologies of Urbana, Ill., to manage the migration of http://ala.org to the open source Drupal platform.

“Moving the ALA website to Drupal aligns us with libraries’ community-focused ideals. ALA will be able to engage with its almost 7 million website visitors in a lively way. Of key importance, member-volunteers who assist with the creation and maintenance of content will find it much easier to work in Drupal,” said Aaron Dobbs, the chair of the ALA Website Advisory Committee (WAC).

Lori Patterson, OJC’s president said, “ALA’s choice to adopt Drupal to power its 85,000-page website will benefit ALA greatly. It will also be a noteworthy contribution to the open source movement, since ALA has committed to contributing all custom built modules back to the Drupal community.”

ALA units are preparing for the migration by reviewing existing content; removing or archiving materials no longer needed; repairing links and adding missing accessibility features. “A contingency-based time line for the migration will be released when the discovery period is complete, probably in December or January. We’re excited about all of the enhancements that being in Drupal will make possible and are looking forward to a rewarding relationship with OJC,” said Sherri Vanyek, ALA’s director of Information Technology and Telecommunications Services.
