Let's talk about your projectMake it in Illinois: empowering manufacturing in Illinois

Summary
The Illinois Innovation Network (IIN) and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) developed the “Make It In Illinois” campaign to strengthen the state’s manufacturing workforce by boosting enrollment in training programs. To achieve this, they launched a statewide marketing campaign and grassroots local/regional campaigns across seven regions of the state. The collaborative effort involved multiple agencies, and Pixo was brought on as the technical partner to develop an interactive campaign website.
The challenge: Connect students with manufacturing opportunities in Illinois

Pixo was tasked with developing a website that featured digital storytelling content, career coaching resources, and links to local training partners, grassroots entities, and manufacturing job boards. The website needed to align with the brand personality and assets developed in earlier phases of the project. Additionally, it was meant to serve as a supplemental resource to the campaign’s primary strategy of digital advertising and grassroots engagement. Given the slim scope outlined in the RFP, Pixo had to ensure the website was both impactful and within the allocated budget
The solution: Develop a user-friendly site to showcase stories and guide to resources
Pixo developed the interactive campaign website using a mobile-first approach, making it accessible and user-friendly across devices. We collaborated with our agency partners, Arthur Agency and Flowers Communications Group, so the website design and structure were consistent with the campaign’s branding and storytelling elements. The key components of the website included:
- Content integration: Incorporated digital storytelling themes and assets provided by the marketing and design partners. This created a cohesive experience that aligned with the project’s messaging and objectives.
- Seamless navigation and responsiveness: Built a seamless navigation system that guided users through different sections, such as career resources, testimonials, and contact information. Clear navigation and a responsive layout enhanced the user journey for the diverse target audience, including students, parents, and career-seekers.
- Easy to find resources: Featured links to local training partners, manufacturing employers, and job boards, acting as a comprehensive resource hub for those interested in manufacturing careers in Illinois.
- Multilingual functionality: We deployed a plugin that easily translates the site into … languages, making it inclusive for the targeted diverse audiences.
The result: An engaging and useful website to direct prospective manufacturing talent statewide
Pixo delivered a valuable platform that showcased manufacturing career opportunities, told important stories, and connected potential talent to essential resources. While primarily serving as a backup to the broader digital advertising and grassroots campaign, the website played a key role in reinforcing the campaign’s messaging and offering a unified, accessible space for career information. This collaborative project not only helped advance the state’s goal of boosting enrollment in manufacturing training programs but also positioned Pixo as a reliable technical partner, opening doors for future collaborations with marketing agencies.
